During summer vacation, I attended a four-day girls’ basketball camp at Lewisville High School. The camp was led by two coaches, with assistance from high school students. Initially, on the first day, I felt tremendously nervous and reluctant to participate. I even shed tears when I was dropped off. Each session lasted only three hours.

The campers were divided into twelve groups, spanning ages from 7 to 15. I was placed in groups 2 and 3. We began each day with a warm-up session, followed by a break at the snack station. I had brought two dollars from home for snacks. Our next activity was shooting practice, where the coaches instructed us on basketball shooting techniques. It was challenging for me initially, but I gradually improved.

We also engaged in various basketball games such as dribbling drills, knock out, and a competition to determine who could dribble the most.

My favorite station was catching the ball, where we practiced passing and receiving from long distances. Afterwards, we had ‘TV time’ during which we watched a documentary about the renowned basketball player Aja Wilson, followed by more basketball activities. One memorable game we played was ‘land and lava,’ which I managed to win once.

On the final day of camp, each participant received a T-shirt to commemorate the experience. At the end of the camp, my parents approached a coach to inquire about nearby basketball coaching opportunities. It was a wonderful experience to learn the basics of basketball in such a supportive environment.
